![]() The great thing about Bear is that I can organize my notes and I don’t think about where they are saved. Ultimately, the way files are stored really sold me on Nota. Eventually, they plan on building an iOS app as well. So, I use iA Writer on iOS, but I mainly write on my Mac so this isn’t an issue. Only thing on your list that is missing is an iOS app… but Nota’s plain text file design means you aren’t locked in (like you would be with Bear or Craft). This is not like iA Writer which has a full preview split view. It does inline preview, so things like images or math are automatically rendered alongside the rest of the markdown. I think it’s 100% worth the price having paid for all of the above in the past. I’ve finally found an app that has it all: Nota. ![]() First class app for the Apple ecosystem. It seems that I prioritize the same things you do: I’ve looked at Obsidian too, but it was eliminated from my list from the get go for design + being overkill for me. Working to make that happen is what we all do share as writers.I’ve tried many note taking/markdown apps (Bear, Craft, Ulysses, iA Writer, Notable, VS Code + plugins, Sublime Text + plugins, Simplenote, Taio, FS Notes). So yes, by all means use whatever keeps the words following most freely for you. Some find Ulysses a delight, but it strikes me as as the worst of both worlds, with its idiosyncratic and incomplete implementation of markdown. Unlike nonfiction, I don’t love writing fiction in markdown, though if I had to, I’d use Obsidian for fiction, too, or iA Writer if it ever gets a proper navigable and editable outline pane. Your method of using markdown and OPML would drive me nuts I love Scrivener on a Mac once I have it set up the way I want it. Some write best with pens or pencils, typewriters or obsolete terminal word processors running on CP/M or DOS. Maybe it’s different from what you found best in the past, and it may be different yet again in the future. It just goes to show that there’s no one best writing tool for all writers, there’s just what’s best for you, for now. I've had Scrivener licences for over a decade and always updated. I think that approach works much better than Obsidian's longform plugin, but that's unsurprising since it's an attempt to emulate Scrivener and I've never found Scrivener effective for me though Markdown headings convert to bullets with the body text as bullet notes. My big trick is converting the markdown file into OPML and importing into an outliner (I tend to use Workflowy) and then do all the moving around in that before converting back to a markdown file via OPML. I don't think iA's outline manipulation is good enough for one file, so my method is to write sections in separate files and then drag them into a single document this makes it easier to keep the sections in order and move them around. Also worth remembering that you can use more than one editor on the same file. It's a little sad that no markdown editor seems designed to do this well, but at least iA is improving even if that improvement shows only on Windows so far. Word has 15 levels of headings against markdown's 6 though. But you do need manipulation using the outline, and preferably folding, to do that effectively. Find what works and feels best for you and don’t worry whether or not anyone else agrees with your choice.īrandon Sanderson writes his books using Word, and it seems to work well for him.Ī markdown file is perfectly capable of being a novel, or even a whole series of novels. And Obsidian is a killer PKM and notes app, with incredible depth and power-for free-so it’s worth looking into no matter what.īut that’s me. There are a number of plugins that would make the job easier, including (though I’ve never used it) a longform plugin that tries to duplicate a few of Scrivener’s features. I’ve become a daily user of Obsidian, and if I wanted to write a novel in markdown, I’d use that rather than iA Writer. I do sometimes write rough fragments in iA Writer and import them into Scrivener, though. Sure, you can write a novel with it, just as you can write a novel in Microsoft Word or any text editor or word processor-or on a typewriter or with a pen. IA Writer is a pretty basic markdown editor, with no special features at all for longform, especially the Mac version, which still lacks folding text and outline navigation. And I prefer rich text over markdown for fiction writing. If you find the interface distracting, you can put it in focus mode and there’s nothing on the screen but your words. Scrivener just makes it so easy to reorganize, split, and combine sections, scenes, and smaller fragments quickly and easily-and also work with it as if it were already one long document whenever you want. I have both, but I’d much rather use Scrivener for longform writing than iA Writer. ![]() Being hit by enemies' and bosses' attacks reduces the character's health, and a life is deducted when no health remains. Lilac's and Carol's maximum health are seven leaves, Milla's is four. To refill this meter, the player collects red leaves dropped by enemies and scattered throughout levels. Unlike in Sonic, the player character has a hit point meter instead of a ring-based health system. Because of its aesthetics, level design, and fast-paced gameplay, Freedom Planet has been compared to the Sonic the Hedgehog games released for the Sega Genesis in the early 1990s. The player fights a miniboss in the middle of each level and a main boss at the end, after which the story is advanced by cutscenes. Freedom Planet was later released for the Wii U in October 2015, for the PlayStation 4 in 2017, and for the Nintendo Switch in August 2018. With development focused on the Windows platform, the game started out as a demo first released in August 2012 and was, after a successful Kickstarter campaign, released in its entirety via Steam in July 2014. Freedom Planet was developed in Denmark and the United States, with its art direction carrying East Asian influences, such as medieval Chinese art inspiring its background visuals. Further changes were suggested by fans and incorporated throughout development. Sash Lilac, originally a hedgehog, became a dragon antagonist Doctor Eggman was replaced by Lord Brevon with his eyebrows resembling Doctor Eggman's mustache and the Sonic series' ring-based health system was abandoned. Early into development, she lost interest in creating a derivative work and reconceived the project as her own intellectual property. While the game focuses on fast-paced platforming, its levels are interspersed with slower action scenes.ĭiDuro first began developing Freedom Planet as a Sonic the Hedgehog fangame using characters created by DeviantArt user Ziyo Ling for its main cast. Aided by a duck-like alien named Torque, the girls attempt to defeat the evil Lord Brevon, who plans to steal the Kingdom Stone and conquer the galaxy. ![]() The player controls one of three anthropomorphic animal protagonists: the dragon girl Lilac, the wildcat Carol, or the basset hound Milla. Most tieflings were, however, the grandchildren or even great-grandchildren of fiends and in Mulhorand's neighbor, Thay, most tieflings were spawned deliberately by powerful wizards as part of some elaborate plot for power. In Mulhorand, the most common tieflings were often those spawned from a union with Set or Sebek. Those sired by Mask, on the other hand, were known for their tendency to cast no reflection. Tieflings sired by Beshaba, for instance, often had antlers instead of horns and pale, white hair. These tieflings often had their own physical characteristics that set them apart. Some tieflings were not descended from mere fiends at all, but from powerful gods. Most tieflings had only one or two of these features. Tieflings descended from rakshasa might have furred skin or feline eyes. Some diabolic tieflings also sported goat-like legs or hooves. Some accounts even held these tieflings to cast neither shadows nor reflections. Diabolic or demonic tieflings could, besides the common horns and tails, possess a forked tongue, leathery or scaly skin, the smell of brimstone, or unusually warm flesh. The physical appearance of a tiefling often depended on the exact ancestry that spawned it, a bloodline that might have remained dormant for generations. Tiefling Bloodlines Ī tiefling descended from a devil from Stygia. They had life spans roughly 20 to 40 years longer than normal humans. Those tieflings who did reach adulthood could be expected to age at roughly the same rate. Only those tieflings with subtle features or born to someone indifferent to their appearance, either out of acceptance or cruel purpose, were likely to reach adulthood. ![]() Tieflings who had strikingly inhuman features were often killed at birth by their horrified parents or others. This, along with their natural propensity for hiding and deceit, helped to give tieflings a reputation for thievery and duplicity. Although it was not always the case, tieflings tended to have better reflexes than their human kin. Tiefling hair was also often the same color as human hair, though dark blue, red, or purple were common shades amongst the race. Tiefling skin was usually human-like in color, though extending past normal human colors into reddish hues as well. Tieflings were, on average, just as tall as humans, from 5 feet and 6 inches to 6 feet and 2 inches (170 to 190 centimeters) and weighed just a little bit heavier at 140 to 220 pounds (64 to 100 kilograms). In many other ways, tieflings were similar to humans physically. Other, more unusual characteristics included a sulfurous odor, cloven feet, or a general aura of discomfort they left on others. Some tieflings also had eyes that were solid orbs of black, red, white, silver, or gold, while others had eyes more similar to those of humans. While some looked like normal humans, most retained physical characteristics derived from their ancestor, with the most common such features being horns, prehensile or non-prehensile tails, and pointed teeth.
